About

From the Black Hills of South Dakota . . . at home wherever her imagination travels.

I’m a small-town girl with a BIG imagination. I’ve been reading since I was a baby. Before I knew my letters, I’d make up words to go with the pictures in books. I’ve been writing for almost as long—squeezing time into the corners of my life when I wasn’t teaching language arts or running a library. I’m well-known in my family for managing everyone . . . and ignoring them when the creative juices start flowing. My first love is the novel, but I’m also fond of poetry, short stories, and nature writing. My books imagine the world as it should be, a place in which characters eventually find the homes where their hearts belong.
